I guess what with it being summer, and all are out on the water, there s less factious frustration that led to all the bun fights on here during the winter. Well, that and absent participants... In fact it s SO well behaved,Kim is down to item 25 on the moderators handbook, misuse of upper keys. Hell, there arent even any complaints about wash. We re even missing the " i want to buy a boat-what should I buy" newbbies that we re always good for a few lashings.
I m almost prone to ask for Happy1 to come back...

Tie up all the halyards etc away from the mast. Proper term is "Frapping"...

I have a night sight I use for night work and a gentleman[I use this term loosely here] wanted to borrow it very late at night one night to " stroll around the pontoons" as he put it. He did not get to borrow it!!!!

Just what is the Marinised term for 'Dogging'

Or is it true about the fishermen off Dogger Bank?

Or will all this be too much for Kim?

That and the sound of a gurgling generator or the gentle slip slap slop of wave upon flat sided bottoms....

Actually I hate noisy halyards too. I once had a friend sadly long gone who would row across an anchorage and tie off offending halyards even if the owners were on board!

not bad. maybe theres a logo in there.. take the GEE out or regal and get a real boat? As you ve only been on here a few months, I think you ve managed to miss all those posts. You know, i want to buy my first boat, but dunno what to get. Then after the forum gives 25 helpful replies about hull designs, engines etc etc, we hear hes just decided on a half mio pound Sunseeker. What a lucky chap!

Nah....thats not frapping! Frapping is winding a few turns round the lashings that are used to join sheerlegs to tighten up the job like so.....

Tying off halyards to stop em making a noise is called....tying off halyards /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Worst problem is halyards that have been run up inside the mast and slap around inside so you cant get at em !!!

Blimey.....I do believe we're discussing raggie stuff on mobochat.....how avant garde !

Oh yes 'real sailors'. You mean the ones so lazy or ignorant that they walk away from their boat leaving other people to put up with the infernal racket?

Most people will note this laziness is usually not displayed by those that sleep on board for the simple reason a rope banging away on a metal mast makes an awful noise down inside the boat.

Dont try to make excuses for selfish, lazy individuals, certainly not by calling them 'real sailors',

Surely "frapping" is what Japanese flags do, in the wind? /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif.

I've seen one or two loose halyards frapped with a Stanley Knife, over the years. It's a pleasant and evocative sound in isolation imho, but when they hunt in packs, for example in Marinas, it all gets a bit much for me.

Phil, I have only once in 25 years boating had to ask somebody to tie their ropes back. It really seems to be the ones who leave their boats without consideration. I have no hesitation in going aboard an empty boat to tie ropes back, but I would do it as if the boat were my own and be careful.
