Hi Everyone,

Wonder if anyone knows how to distinguish between a Thornycroft T90 and T90/2 diesel? Is in a 1975 Colvic UFO34.

According to the manual, they take different amounts of oil (3.9L T90 vs. 4.4L T90/2). The engine had around 4.4L in, but nothing to distinguish it as a T90/2 - all markings point to it being a T90. Hence, doing oil change, unsure if what was originally in (4.4L) is correct or a mistake.

The dipstick is not original so not useful to determine correct oil volume.

Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, T90 is a BMC 1.5D engine and the T90/2 is a Mitsubishi engine. If you look at the manuals for these you will find the volumes.

If its a BMC the post side of the block will have "1500" cast near the front under the fuel lift pump. I always put 4.5 to 5 litres in the BMC, they are not critical.
