My very reliable engine has suddenly developed a severe oil leak in the region of the pipe connection for the oil-change pump. I am able to look at this connection from the front of the engine and touch it at arms stretch, and all is secure. As for looking from a more suitable point, just about impossible without removing exhaust system, raw water intake system, gearbox oil cooler etc. etc.

Question is does anyone know of any other fitting in this area, port side of engine ahead of rear mounting, which could suddenly fail?

Thanks in anticipation

I seem to remember that there are two plates approx 5" x 2" which give access to the camshaft followers. It could be that the single bolt in the middle of each of these has come loose. One other posibility is that there is a leak on the cylinder head gasket. My memory is not the best but I think that the oilway between the main engine block and the head is at the right hand side rear of the engine when looked at from the front.
