Hello from Finland
I have Thornycroft 108 engine in my old boat and I was googling about information of it and ended to this forum.
I have information that Thornycroft 108 is based on quite common BMC 1.8 diesel, but there seems to be some differences.
I have problem with starter solenoid. The solenoid is fitted with three screws and also starter is fitted with three bolts. I believe this is some unusual setup, because as I found some pictures of BMC 1.8 diesel starters, those have 2 bolts and only 2 screws from solenoid.
Does anyone know if there is some source for solenoid to this kind of starter motor?
Some part seller claims it might be manufactured by bosch, wonder if same kind of solenoid was used in some tractor or car?
3 bolt starter can be bought as whole unit, but I rather would change just solenoid, because it is not easiest job to remove starter from this boat (cannot reach bottom bolt without disassembling a lot of boat's inner panels
).
There is some pictures of solenoid:

Unfortunately I do not have picture of starter, because did not know that it is different from usual setup when I was removing solenoid.
