Has anyone seen or heard, either from known sources or some which who lives in a cave at the end of the street; if we are going to get a good year. Or is it going to be as cack or worse than last year. If the answer is the latter then serious consideration has to be given to not returning from Lanzarote next week (if only that were possible) Incidentally weather there at the mo is a pitifull 20c damn it.

Lanzarote weather hasn't been good for a while. We found temps over Xmas / New Year around 20°C around the southern coastline but more like 16°C inland at the villa. Well below seasonal averages. Still better than here though. New Rubicon Marina worth a look.

I liked Lanzarote - especially the weather. We stayed in Playa Blanca. Nice and clean. Only criticism was the choice in the restaurants was a bit limited, sort of "pizza-pasta" type stuff. No fresh fish like on the S coast of Spain...bizarre!

Grey cold blighty - yuk! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Detailed forecast for 2005

An umimpeachable source has told me we can expect variable amounts of precipitation, occasional mild or warm spells between cold snaps and sunshine can be expected on some days although not during the hours of darkness
I hope this helps. I certainly wont be wearing my bikini at night after this forecast

we found a couple of brilliant fish restaurants in Puerto del Carmen. Though far too many English breakfast and restaurant type places, can't have our British tourists eating all that foreign muck now can we /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Took us a week to actually find a decent Spanish restaurant which served Paella, quite sad really. I thort the place was like a hot blackpool, would not go again.

As you say, Puerto del Carmen is like a hot Blackpool. Playa Blanca is much nicer, though I think it's grown since we were last there, 7 or 8 years ago. It's a great place for some reasonably-priced winter sun, which is why we used to go there.

Ethnic Canarian cuisine is pretty non-existent, I think, since so much of what they eat is imported from elsewhere. Going up to some of the little villages inland, and eating there, will get you something a bit more authentic, but eateries are generally fairly international, with a strong bias towards catering for, erm, loud, overbearing people with names like Helmut and Inga, and a penchant for 24 hours-a-day occupation of sun-loungers.

Tom very true

Questor were is this Rubicon you mention

Dave as it happens Playa Blanca is were we are going so I hope there is some good restaurants cos our jollies consist of beach, bar, beach, bath, reataurant, bar followed by fall over and then to bed /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Pauline have not had pleasure of close up examination of spanish woman (unfortunatly) but I will work on it /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Mike thanks for your optomistic weather report

Only been to teguise before so any ideas of places to go around Playa Blanca primarily Restaurants, bars and marinas very welcome.

Re:Was not that bad surely?

La Palma and La Gomera have survived the invasion of peeps from E.Midlands /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif and Berlin airports best.Gomera requires the ferry and La Palma has scary short runway to put folks off.Found it very quiet down there this xmas with unusual easy to get accomodation and sensible priced flights this year. All down to folks in BMW land not spending any dosh at moment according to locals.

I found a very nice spanish restaurant in Playa Blanca. managed to drink what the owner claimed was his last bottle of 95 Rioja Reserva....delicious. been there 3/4 times now.
anyway cant remember what it was called (Credit card receipt may have right name El Homo De La Abuela) when you walk up the little slope from the Taxi rank there is a little road which runs off at about 1 o'clock. it used to be painted green outside.... i think. as you enter they have coolers with meat laid out, entrance to dining area is on the right. food was great and traditional spansih. they have locally caught fish specilities on some days.
if its gone bad i will be surprised.

Since you ask, Marina Rubicon is near (to the east of) Playa Blanca. As you head down the main road from Yaiza / Femes into Playa Blanca, turn left towards Papgayo etc and it is a little way down there. You'll see the masts etc Can't miss it. It's still half empty & half built, but when it's finished it will be fab. Much better than the marina in Puerto Calero, Only question I have is, if you kept your boat there, apart from having somewhere to park yer bum, where would you go?

Re eating out, I'm lead to believe by the locals that the best restaurant on the Island is the "Uga Bodega" in Uga Doesn't look much from outside but inside is fab. It's very small and VERY different. Definitely worth a visit. You won't get many tourists in there. Bit pricey by Lanzarote standards - 4 of us got caught for £170 euros. Must book first though. Phone Carlos or Mario on 928 830147

Also be careful drinking & driving. Plod are now all over the place. Limit is half what it is here. If you get caught you could look forward to 2 years in a spanish jail.

Have a good trip.
