Who's up to what? We thinking of being somewhere Fri night and Sat, poss Sunday too..Was even thinking of going back to the old haunt of Poole if the wind is as it says it might be...
Back to anchor in the Beaulieu river same as we did last Sunday-just stunning location and views, hopfully the same weather again would be nic....pleaaaaaaaaasssssseeeee
I am ashamed to say that, despite being moored on the Hamble for 2 years, I have never been up the Beaulieu river. Where is it possible to anchor or pick up a buoy of the night if you draw 1 metreish?
At end of first reach there are two sizeable visitors' moorings (anchor light advisable) or go on past Bucklers Hard far enough to escape the Harbourmaster's clutches and pick up a vacant mooring.
At Springs reach the head of navigation and berth alongside the Palace Wall (dries approx 2.7m) or at the old quay opposite where there is more water.
Easy peasy for 0.9m draft I find. PM if you want pics.
You can anchor in the lower reaches of the river (you'll see lots of other people there) or - particularly if you can take the mud - there is a peaceful spot above Bailey's Hard where the moorings run out, and you can drop the hook there. If you want to pick up a mooring I strongly suggest that you ask the Harbourmaster (rather than trying to avoid him) because that way you'll avoid being evicted from someone's mooring if they return from a day's sailing.
You will have to pay to anchor, because the river bed, uniquely, belongs to Beaulieu Estates rather than Her Majesty, and you will have to pay even more for a mooring. I am all in favour of this because it preserves the unique character of the river and keeps my annual mooring fees down /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
Two choices for us. We either clean the boat from top to bottom ready for photos to be taken so we can put the 'For sale' sign up. Or we can take the boat to Falmouth, have a nice meal out, view a Targa 33 for sale down there, chill out in the sun, catch a bit of fishing, have a drink or two, meet up with a friend, have another drink or two, and perhaps discuss the following weekends job of cleaning the boat from top to bottom.
Well if the forecast is as good as predicted then I may stay overnight Sat in Yarmouth and then Sunday afternoon cruise around to Ventnor for some fresh sea food. Failing that then Bembridge or Beaulieu.
However I might change my mind and head towards Weymouth or Swanage.
I have always used the moorings past Bucklers Hard - just so nice and peaceful and been doing it for years - but can get busy. Never had anyone come back for their mooring buoy YET, however I keep clear of any buoys with tenders left behind.
The Harbour master has always visited me for payment and normally reminds me not to leave the boat in case someone comes back, but I still use the tender but make sure I'm not gone too long.
OK, Ballistix is me, 16 me or private for mobile. May go to Poole and Lymington either Fri or Sat night...on for a beer and a chinwag. Must get that flag sorted from HLB!!
