Waiting for my daughters A level results?

The panic has slowly worked down from my daughter to my wife who has now got me at it. Roll on 10 am and put us all out of our misery.

You're lucky with the short wait. My daughter's school has decided to make them wait until noon!

Also, I understand that the universities have the results 1 - 2 days in advance of the the candidates. Whilst I can appreciate that they have some work to do, it seems daft to me that they don't give them ASAP to the student and then set a deadline of 2 days ahead when they can respond to queries etc.

Anyway - 4 hours to go...

Universities got the results on Sunday for the students that have places offered. The staff are under sentence of death if they diclose anything at all to the students, before the students hear via their schools. Today, they will be fielding calls from distressed students and their parents. No one enjoys it. There must be a better way!

Better way is to alllow a gap year. Thus if results are poor you know you can do something about them, rather than panicking. My son has had 3 years out (travel + paying of overdraft) so had a confirmed place a month ago.

Ha, and you think the worry ends there, you’ve got to find a University then accommodation, worry about her being alone in a strange town, who she is going out with and then there’s lets find a job………………. This is the easy bit.

She is the last of 3, so unfortunately I know what's still to come. Just noticed it's 10.10 hrs and still know phone call!!!!!!!!!

I work at a school and I downloaded our results 00:01hrs Wednesday because there is an awful lot of work to do before meeting the students at 09:00 this morning.

My point is, perhaps the results could be made available a little earlier, but it would simply give you a different deadline for you hopes, fears, nerves etc to build upto. You'd still go through it the same!

Don't panic - according to the news this morning she has a 1 in 3 chance of straight A-s and a 96% chance of passing. Not bad odds IMHO

Hmmm, I'm going to have to question your maths there...
Going by the stats on the bbc, there's a 22% chance of getting an A in a given subject. If you took three A levels then thats a 1% chance of straight A's.

At the risk of being accused of pedantry, the probabilities are based on any (or all) subject, not a given subject, since one subject might have a lower percentage of A grades (eg Maths) than others (eg Psychology). I may of course be entirely wrong about this :-)

Mine's managed to get her's earlier than expected. I was predicting something of a disaster but (in her words) "I'm a jammy cow, and got AAB". So no panics re last minute clearings etc.

Congratulations - Liverpoool John Moores or the real one? There's a good Uni sailing club (dinghies) and Liverpool YC is very friendly, cheap (£20) and a great place if she fancies racing yachts every Sunday.

Now all you need to do is find accommodation, shell suits &c. in the space of four weeks.
