Allegedly,2 major insurers of yacht clubs have decided to raise the age at which young people can drive or crew club boats from 16 to 18 years.

I would have thought that this will have a major impact on the RYA PB training schemes but I also wonder if there maybe a knock on effect within your average yacht insurance i.e. no one under 18 to drive the boat unless they are supervised.

Makes sense to me since clubs now seem to use fast ribs with large outboards . whether I agree with a min age of 18 for all boats is another matter maybe "size matters" . Know of one 16 year old who has a Ring 20 with a huge V6 hung on the back and no training what so ever. How crazy is that??? an accident waiting to happen !!

Cheers

Terry
