I say ban those persons who ask colregs questions that they should have known the answer to from the water for 12 months.

OK. You'll need to post some interesting flag etiquette questions to fill in the empty white spaces though

although both flag etiquette and ColRegs are gone into in extreme detail, both can be very confusing subjects. However, we should not lose sight that one is life threatening, in a lot of cases, whilst the other is a social thang.
Could we not have a forum for ColRegs which people could, let's say have a reasonable debate/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif and perhaps we could have a member of the RYA popping in now and again, to give advice on the interpretation of rules, which appear to be particularly confusing to some, but apparently understood, in no uncertain terms, by others.

Got to be better than the, sometimes heated to the point of swords being drawn, discussions both on S'butt and the Mobo forums.
I am sure we could all learn from the questions and answer, but it wouldn't lead to huge, non productive posts on the general forums. At least we would all know where to look and perhaps learn.

All IMHO of course.

Now look what you've started, a debate about whether we should have a debate./forums/images/icons/smile.gif

At least they had some relevance to sailing, unlike some of the other self indulgent posts. Some people should go off and start personal blogs or "communities" in some obscure corner of the net and leave the forums alone.

Oh dear - the self-appointed forum police are out again /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

One of the great strengths of these Forums is the wide range of topics they cover - what gives you the right to presume to dictate what may or may not be discussed?

If you don't like a thread then don't read it. Many say in the title what they are about, and even if they don't you only need to read the first page to get the gist of the discussion.

try reading it again.......................
I want to read them as I can always learn something. You've missed the point. At least if they have their own forum, I know where to find them when they drop off the page./forums/images/icons/mad.gif

I'm not sure how I've misinterpreted:

<blockquote><font size=1>In reply to:</font><hr>

how about banning Col Regs posts for a month..

<hr></blockquote>

No mention of a separate forum there - sounds to me like you are trying to prevent people from discussing Col Regs at all.

If you have banned the posts from the forum how do you expect to read and learn?

Iwould have thought that it would have been easily understood that the first post was tongue in cheek and that when the thread was looked at in more detail, the reason for it's existance, was to promote the idea of a question and answer forum on ColRegs, where perhaps a more officially recognised person could give advice, where conflicts arise.

Seemed a bit obvious to me. imho
