Overheat on engine has gone but engines are only pushing 3000 revs at Wot, suggestion is a furry bottom... Sealift is fully booked so a "blast" has been recommended as an alternative, what do you reckon, flat and straight, high speed turns or some wake jumping (such as you can with 40 feet)

Either way today should end up with a big grin.... and a lighter fuel tank...

...run it up a nice sandy beach at 30kts; that should do it!

Andy, just a word of caution, you may have 2 problems. Something causing the overheat and a furry bum causing the WOT issue. Or indeed, something engine wise causing both. if the other engine is able to reach WOT, that would suggest a furry bum isn't your issue. Thrashing the engine with an overheat condition to clear the boats bum may be a risky approach

Have you checked the water intake louvres on the outdrive with the overheating engine? Dirty bum may also mean yiu have growth blocking the inlet. Beach mode and give em a poke

Thanks for the advice Gary, both engines behaving the same, watched them both settle @84 degrees yesterday. When we cleaned water filter yesterday we found a mussel innards - or so it looked like.

Ill take your advice though (plus SWMBO doesn't like the "rough stuff" so blasting it would.be relative). Service due nexthe month so hopefully they will sort it...

I had an overheating issue which was bad on one engine and less so on the other.

The problem resulted from Volvos weird idea of fitting the raw water strainer AFTER the raw water pump on my version of their D6 engines.

Looking at various VP D series models it appears that some versions have their strainers on the low pressure, suck, side before the water pump and some on the high pressure side after the water pump, as with mine. If your filter is on the pump output side you might have the same issue.

The overheating was caused by greater sandeels, launce, being sucked into the engine, some, on the less overheated engine never actually entering the pump but staying in the 2 inch inlet pipe. On the other engine a couple of fish had got into the pump but jambed, the pump happy to run on their emptied skin while their tails remained in the inlet pipe to restrict the flow.

Removing both inlet pipes and removing all fish resolved the problem.

Have now fitted a pair of raw water filters in the inlet line.

It seems odd the VP should fit raw water strainers after the pump but that is how it is on several modern engines they provide.
