quick question: What can I thin antifouling with? Its Seajet 'shogun', and is drying so damn fast I cant get it on evenly! There is a product available from seajet, but a) I need it asap and this might take some tracking down, and b) a standard thiners will be cheaper! Will gun wash do the job?!

Take care. International thinners No 3 is their trimethyl benzene based product for thinning most of their "conventional" antifoulings. International do not list a no4. The numbering system is not universal. You should ascertain what the correct thinners are for your A/f and make sure that what you buy is the equivalent as you do not what to f... up a whole can of expensive A/F.

Perhaps Minquiers would like to qualify his advice by stating the manufacturer of the No4 thinners he is suggesting.

I agree that the numbering system is not universal. I once bought a tin of Blakes No 3 to clean International off my brushes but it didn't work. Luckily I hadn't added any to my paint.

After keeping the tin for about 12 years I discovered the Blakes No 3 was great for cleaning Hammerite and similar metal paints off brushes. I knew I would find a use for it eventually in true skinflint PBO fashion!

Re: Cleaning Hammerite....

Last time I bought Hammerite I found that they had changed the formulation of both paint and thinners. The thinners now smell like butanone, aka MEK so petrol may not now work!
