We're thinking of visiting West Mersea in the near future

Could someone remind me the situation regarding visitor moorings and any launch facilities there might be in order to get ashore (although we plan on being self-sufficient)

Thanks

Hi Paul

Further to my PM. Call YC1 on Channel M1 as you approach the packing shed - the black hut on the island. They will tell you where to pick up a mooring - the last two times it has been near the packing shed. Once sorted you can call them for a lift ashore - £2 a head each way. You can dinghy it but it's quite a long way(10 minutes at least). Tie up inside the hammer head.

Roger
PS if you have bought a beverage in WMYC then the ride back is free wink wink nod nod.

Hours for the Club Launch are (April to end of September):

Monday to Thursday 0830 to 1230 and 1400 to 1730
Friday and Saturday 0830 to 2300
Sunday 0830 to 1830
Public Holidays 0830 to 1830

"Visiting yachtsmen will be charged per trip, redeemable against Bar purchases" "£10 per night up to and including 33ft, £15 per night over 33ft. All proceeds from visitor mooring charges are reserved for the enhancement of the harbour and collected by our launchmen on behalf of the MMA"

Oh. Note the changes in the local buoyage see: http://www.crossingthethamesestuary.com/page29.html First download on the page.

If you draw anything more than 1m stand off and make the WM berthing boat come to you. First time we went, despite being told our draft of 1.8m we were told to "come up to the pontoon and I'll lead you across" -- Which he did, us ploughing a furrow all the way. Not impressed with the place anyway, expensive, poor facilities, crowded landing pontoon, that's if you can get anywhere near it with kids and hysterical parents torturing crabs.

So a good place to catch crabs :disgust:
