I am thinking of taking a small speedboat out to Mallorca to use over the summer months however before doing so I need to resolve the transport and insurance aspects so any advise appreciated.

Transport - I have had what I consider to be a very good quote to transport the boat (on a transporter on its trailer with cars) from Ramsgate > Mallorca from Webbs Removals - if anyone knows an alternative firm please let me know. The only other economical alternative I have found is to tow it down myself but with two ferries etc there is little difference in cost and as I may leave there why have the hassle of towing 1,000 miles.

Insurance - To be quite honest I'm not that bothered about insuring the boat against theft/loss but obviously what does bother me is the 3rd party aspect but I really need someone just to cover this for say July/August/September. Any ideas? The boat is on the SSR. It will be secure garaged over the winter period.

Any info/suggestions gratefully received.

Re insurance - just ask your existing insurer, they may well cover it at no extra charge.

Where are you planning to keep the boat in Mallorca - marina, boatyard etc?

Oh and I towed our boat down behind my Shogun with no problem, but definitely easier to get someone else to do it if you can.

'Existing' insurance expired as it has been out of water being totally refurbed hence looking for best start again suggestions. Boat will be kept in one of 3 places! Garage/marina or on floating buoy (safe!).

[/ QUOTE ] Even better! When you're looking for new cover, extract the best deal you can then, just when you're about to sign up, mention casually that you're trailering her to the Med for three months and that won't cost any extra, will it? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You'll find that most insurers have their proponents and detractors; cheapest isn't necessarily worst, but proceed with caution: there are some sharks out there. The critical thing to discover is what they're like when you have to make a claim.

Insurers may not be wild about you keeping your boat on a swinging mooring during the winter. Mine aren't and I'm five miles up a sheltered river..........
