Heading north for padstow. At the longships about noon. What do you reckon weather wise. Looks a bit uncertain to me and the idea of 8 hours to windward with 20 kn over the deck doesnt appeal.

Have never been round and have not looked at the f/C but just want to say the obvious, any headland is 10 times worse if you are sailing/motoring into anything over a F4. If there is also wind over tide forget it. Unless there is a definite time constraint I would wait until the wind is in your favour.

Sorry if I am telling my grandmother how to suck eggs.

Windguru, at present is giving 7-16kts from the west and less than 1m waves which are quite long. Although I would check closer to the time, it looks like a good forecast, for the trip up the coast. It might be a bit lumpy near the Brisons or at Cape Cornwall. It might be on the nose across Mounts bay but you can't have everything!
I normally leave from Newlyn and have left earlier and earlier on the tide almost every time. Apart from a problem trying to go though the race inside Runnel stones, I find the earlier the better (within reason).
Good sailing.

I agree 100% with what you say, but the other big question is 'what boat?'

(I usually go outside the Runnelstone and inside Longships given reasonable weather.)

I know it's no longer the done thing on here but I also agree with you. After trying to go inside the stones early on the tide, I now go outside the cardinal.
Your right about the size of the boat, I shouldn't have assumed it suitable. I have a heavy 33ft boat. For some reason I assumed Birdseye has something similar or larger. It may come from previous posts from him.

IIRC a starlight 35.........

I also agree that its not normal to agree on here
I agree with your agreement that its not normal to agree on here.

I was hoping for views on the weather forecasts which are all over the place. Got swmbo on board so we arent up for bumpy.

The weather forecast will get more accurate as we get closer to the date.

I normally put SWMBO on the train at Penzance and do the trip alone!
I agree, recently the forecasts have been iffy! Most of the problems I have seen are more about timing than anything else. For instance, wind speeds predicted for through Saturday night arrived mid morning Sunday. As there are no winds above 20kts predicted for Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, I would not worry. If you are able to go to somewhere like Sennen cove, for a look on Wednesday, I can't the sea state getting worse over night.
It looks set up for a stunning sail at present, just have to keep your fingers crossed the forecast doesn't change tomorrow.
Good sailing, I'm jealous!

Disagree, most normal posters agree.

True, you are right and I completely agree!
One question for Birdseye, when are you thinking of heading back down? Although it's some way off and will change, some sites are not looking good for early next week. Plenty of wind and from the south! It could cost you a fortune with Mr Stien waiting to return!
