Quite fancy a Windy Mirage as the next BBT. However do I go for a later model with the D6 or save some cash and get one with a KAD. Age with these isn’t such an issue as all the examples I’ve looked at so far seem to be fabulously well maintained.
Have been running at SD speeds for the last couple of decades and fancy bouncing at insane speed for the twilight of my boating years. Ulterior motive being the kids might want to go out with dad again.
Opinions on above most welcome.

I didn't think they did one with a d6, I think it was either the kad or d4?

Either way I have one with a d4 260,so let me know if you want any specific info

The d4 probably is a better engine, more efficient, parts availability for longer etc, but It probably depends on the price difference and your budget as to which boat and engine combo is best choice.

I'd imagine the kad boat is pretty good when compared like for like (ie equivalent horsepower) with the d4 boat , so if its loads cheaper but in decent condition then it could be a good buy.

I haven't tried the kad version, so can't really compare.

The d4 260 version goes well though, feels like about the right amount of power.

Trying to think of any issues I've had with the boat itself, my boat is a 2006 model, that I've owned since 2013, I can't think of anything that immediately comes to mind.

Thought of a couple of things that have gone wrong:-

The base of the drivers and passenger seats is made of marine ply which rots, and the seat comes away from the pedestal, but this is easily repaired with some replacement bolts and large washers.

I've got some minor stress cracking in the gel coat where the cabin door is, and around the dashboard, it's been like that since I bought it and hasn't got any worse.

The horn stopped working this year.

The varnish on the woodwork round the sink has cracked and split.

I think that's about it, nothing significant has gone wrong imo

The teak on th bathing platform could do with replacing now at about 13 years old, and I did have an issue with the caulking in the teak deck going soft a few years ago, I think that's a fairly common issue with windys. Fixed it by recalling and sanding the deck.

The stress cracking is in a couple of places where there are tight radius corners/curves in the gel coat, ie the bottom left corner of the cabin door opening and the bit where the instrument binnacle rises up, they're definitely only cosmetic and haven't got worse
