A couple of years back I switched engines in my old Fairey, and decided to keep one cylinder head as a spare. I took the one from the better of the two motors, neither motor clapped, but suffering badly from oil leaks.
So the head was carefully stored in my garage 'for an emergency'. So having found a lack of compression on one of the other in use engines, whistled the spare head down to my local engineers for a valve licking, before doing a 'swap'. Easy eh? Nope! Phone call tonight 'Er did you know that this cylinder head is cracked?'
Double BUGGER! Hmmmmpf!

Time for an Old Speckled Hen I think.

Yep, always a bottle or cans on board. Some of that very fine nectar is great when you get news like above. I will now forget about the boat till tomorrow!

I have done it the other way round. I used to drink Scotch years back, but decided would be prudent to stop after waking up with complaints from kidneys on couple of occasions. OSH does not appear to give me any problems except severely restricting driving! Oh and one or two friends who also like it may get light fingered!

Yep speckled hen is one of my favourites, always seems to taste better from bottles rather than cans. Bishops Tipple is pretty good too.

how badly cracked? valve to valve can be ultrasealed, I have known of cracked liners in rover v8's be repaired with ultraseal treatment, Audi used it on all their RS4 cylinder heads from the factory.

OSH and Marstons Pedigree are brewed with rotten eggs are they not?

Re: HSB

If I'd known you had HSB on board I would have stopped on Saturday when we came past your mooring on the Hamble.

Used to drink it at University in Reading which goes a long way to explain why I remember so little.

Re: HSB

Just to make you feel a little better, there wasn't any on board - it gets "used up " too quickly but I'll put it on the list for this W/E

PS the last time Ianainge came aboard he had to bring his own beer, we didn't have any cold in the fridge.

Life is full of problems.........
