If you're thinking of Cruising the Med, and you'd like to know more about how to get there, what boat equipment to consider, what the rules and regs are, and how the various countries and locations compare, The Cruising Association is running a seminar on the subject on Sunday 27th November at Limehouse Dock (on the DLR). One of our regular forumites, Vyv Cox, will be talking about technical issues, I'm doing Rules and Regs (boring stuff, eh?) and people who have been sailing the various countries will be passing on tips about getting the best out of Mediterranean Cruising.

Agenda and booking details here.

Biscay and western portugal

Currently en route Glasgow to Cyprus.
The most challenging leg is Scilly isles to Lagos Portugal.

Beware: Biscay on a bad day (s), cape Finistere often blows 2 forces over forecast.
Visit Lisbon and ride the yellow electric 1900,s trams but the estuary exit can be very lumpy when wind over tide and plenty of bigger ship traffic.often in less than 20m water.
Portugal west cost is exposed and south Sines to Cape Vincent is exposed with little shelter.
Cape Vincent can see big and confused seas. Stay about 2 miles off in 50m water for a quicker passage.

The algarve is a walk in the Park with all mediteranean expectations. Easy coastal cruising with plenty of harbours and anchorages.

A thoroughly recommended adventure.
