Just thought I would start a thread about the activities we do when on dry land and ways of helping the budget ...Also has anyone had any success with short term /long term renting of a land based room or rooms this is something i wish to explore....are there any other Musicians out there ? I find Music is a great Ice breaker and a good way to get into the local population......thanx...

Nothing to do with helping the budget but have an old boat with a slightly less than reliable engine helps lots with meeting the locals. Many a good conversation I've had with a few words and a lot of sign language while standing in a queue trying to source an engine part. Places to go, best restaurants, best fishing and more. Every cloud......

THANKS WHAT A FANTASTIC RESPONSE...NEXT TIME I'LL POST A PROPER QUESTION LIKE "HOW TO GET THE BEST FROM MY ONBOARD NUCLEAR POWER SOURCE"...

We rented out 2 houses for the three years we were liveaboards. We used a letting agency and it was mostly trouble free. I am a musician - play alto saxophone. Currently doing a full time jazz course - but hoping to return to liveaboard life and do some music. I'd really like to do some busking although never tried it. I hear of people making reasonable pin money and meeting other muso's too.

If you want to have a tantrum perhaps you'd better post on The Lounge - they seem to make a pastime of it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Perhaps one of the reasons you've only had one reply is the ambiguity of your post - are you asking about ways of funding your cruising or how to make friends ? It's certainly not clear to me.

BTW - clicking on your link gives the following error "The requested URL /jeffsloopsylvia was not found on this server."

Activties Ashore (Part 2)

Ok I will be less ambiguous..My post was to ask if anyone had found renting a room or rooms whilst abroad ...For themselves as an alternative to being afloat For a while ...also had anyone had any success with Busking or getting a gig as an Entertainer /Musician...Thanks (Toys secure in pram)

Think you have a very interesting piont about renting rooms, something I have though about but not done. If you want to stay in one place for a few months the extra space would be good and if this was part of the long term plan then you may be ok with a smaller boat - the cost savings parying for the spells of renting. Could also be a key if you have a slightly less enthusiastic partner who is maby OK with long cruises but dubiouse about full time live-aboard.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah exactly mypoint.the room thing is something i thought about whilst in Tobago Secure storage is important Also on shore power for Computer/Laptop saves all that solar stuff and constantly worrying about power ..also to be able to go out for while and leave non essentials ashore gets better don't it...Its the way forward for me and will do it when the time is right...
