Things I really like!

Certainly the first, but I'd include the bacon buttie after a dawn start or overnight sail, when the sun is just warming you up and all is going well and no one else is about.

A day in the Lakes when it isn't raining (not many this summer)

the sense of relief when you get into a mooring after a long offshore leg and it's 7 in the morning and you crack open a beer, much to the amusement of surrounding boats eating breakfast, me having had about 2 hours sleep, for some reason i enjoy that :)

That moment when the engine goes off, the tranquility, and all you can hear is the ripple of the water ......... magic ........ priceless ......

The first hour of dawn when you've been alone on the early morning watch. Everything slowly becomes lighter and (if you're lucky) the sun breaks over a misty horizon. Love it.

Then someone usually gets up and spoils the moment.

The sense of peace and freedom when you kill the engine and harden up to the wind

I think this is one of the most wonderful feelings and sensations achieved whilst sailing.

Akin to lying back in a warm bath whilst a beautiful women soothes ones brow, and just when taking the first sip of a long cool drink.........mmmmmmmmmm!

Woops got carried away there

just messing about in boats - its another world away from "it all".

When I have tried to explain my love of sailing I have mentioned the time when I switch off the engine. When certain tunes come on the radio I can feel the hair on the back of my neck stand up, it is the same when the motor goes off.
