Left the marina Monday for first trip of the year upriver. All 4 upstream locks double manned with lockie and helper. Tuesday and continuing on, next 3 locks on self service. Then the next 3 with only lockie on duty. Luckily not too many boats around and everyone behaving. Also lots of activity at Cookham with contractors on site.

keep going the lockies thin out
Hopefully you will now see a distinct improvement as 18 summer reliefs come on stream. There should be pretty much a full house of manned locks over the next few days including the whole of the Bank Holiday weekend, although lunch breaks and weir work times may not be covered unless there is a volunteer on duty.

Hopefully you will be proved right B1. However, continuing on our merry way upriver we arrive at Marlow lock on self service with boats waiting to go up and down. Gates will not open. Luckily an EA launch appears, crew operate the magic switch in the lockies hut and off we go. But I don't care as at least I am on the boat.

Great day yesterday. The sun was up, the wind was down and all the locks were manned. Cookham public power works in the test stage, although suffering from blowing fuses. Lots more boats around. Is it a bank holiday soon?
