Tough new rules will mean that instead of "copycat" entertainment and makeover series - designed to compete with commercial rivals - every one of the corporation's television channels and radio stations [the BBC], must fulfil its obligation to screen more peak-time documentaries, original drama and comedy, current affairs and arts-related shows.

Does that mean that they will cease showing repeats?

As I had seen all last years programmes the previous year, I sent them a photocopy of that year's cheque for my licence fee. They weren't impressed. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don\'t count your chickens

From the BBC Spring schedules:

Documentary: "They think it's all (Make)Over" - The Panorama team follow the making of a reality makeover show and discuss the psychological effects of appearing on it, with the participants. Followed by viewer phone-in: which colours would you have chosen? (Results announced at 10.30 pm)

Original drama and comedy: Older Sibling: new comedy series, following the fortunes of a group of zany friends who are locked up in a house, with nothing but a group of video cameras for company. Soon the pressure starts to tell, and enmities surface, with hilarious consequences!

Arts-related shows: Let's talk colours - Linda Barker and friends discuss the application of theories of colour compatibility, with reference to the architecture and design of the Renaissance, and to the decor of two adjoining contemporary properties. At the end of the programme, the owners of the two properties join in the debate, to express their views. Contains strong language.

Current Affairs: Makeover Mad - How a growing number of people are being made ill by a succession of rubbish "Reality" shows on TV. Contains numerous examples of the genre, for illustrative purposes.

Coming soon: "100 Favourite Makeover Moments" With Jimmy Carr.

I'm very keen on BBC repeats. The more the merrier, I say. I especially like all those old Bergeracs on daytime tv. We should write and ask them to show more.

Re: Don\'t count your chickens

Re "Original drama and comedy"

Rather than lock up a group of friends in a house....
I have just chartered a yacht for self and four friends
to sail the Med for a week.

I am just thinking, should I approach a TV company?
I can see it now, after 24 hours of me telling them
Tommy Cooper jokes and making remarks like...
"That reminds me of a story...."

It should be a lot more interesting than "I'm a celeb"
or "Big Brother" Did any one hit any one else in those?

What do you think? Any agents on line?

Regards Briani

Re: Don\'t count your chickens

Not too worried about repeats since usually they only repeat programmes that have been successful. Comedies particularly since there are no decent new comedies on TV.

Its the house makeovers and holiday programmes, and slimming programmes and the arty farty ones that bore me rigid. Watching the Bruce Forsyth tribute I couldnt help but think "what happened to entertainment?"

Mind you, would these forums be half as active if there were something worth watching on the goggle?
