I have a little handheld chartplotter (Raymarine) which came with a mount. Problem is, the mount isn't really suitable (or put it another way, my cockpit isn't suitable).

I am toying with the idea of having some sort of mount that fits INSIDE the boat on the bulkhead with a bendy thing that can be arranged to hold the little chartplotter sort of in the companionway.

The 12V outlet is just inside on the bulkhead so it would be convenient to plug in.

As the display is pretty small, it's unlikely I will be able to see much from the helm, but it would be within reach to grab and have a look at.

An internet search has brought up this

Does anyone know of anything similar, or indeed suitable, that's available in the UK?

What you want is to fix it on a board that is hinged on by the companionway so it can be flat against the bulkhead inside or swung out to be read from the cockpit.

There was a thing like that on my last boat. Don't know where you'd get it - a chippie might be able to knock one up /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif unfortunate turn of phrase sorry /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bernie,

That is exactly the sort of thing i use to hold my PDA plotter thing. It is screwed onto a bookshelf and does a great job.

Good news 1 : I have a spare not being used.
Good news 2 : I can bring it along and fit it en route, all gratis.

There you go. My good deed for the day. Incommunicado now for a week. No prob if you do it another way.

I inherited a hinged instrument panel arrangement which could be swung out through the companion way and later I made one myself for my present boat. There are disadvantages with these arrangements - the wiring needs to be really well fixed at both ends and preferably the coiled telephone type of cable. Secondly, your crew need to be well instructed not to brush past it when traversing the companion way. I abandoned the concept and went for Tack Tick displays above the companion way.
