Having just acquired some nice new string I'm about to start making up some new docklines. We use the spring type of surge protectors so I need to splice thimbles into one end. I've had a look at Gael Force and they seem to have a wide range, however they size them by length and not string size. The string is 20mm anyone have any idea what thimble size would be appropriate.

Any views on nylon versus galvanised versus stainless would be welcome. FWIW some of the surge springs are galvanised, others appear to be stainless.

Cheers,

Colin

@LazyDaysADLS - nice idea but that doesn't seem to be an option on their website.

@peterdenning - Thanks, that's the kind of information I was hoping for.

Thanks both for the replies.

Cheers,

I'll bet you a pound to a penny that it's simply the headings to their table that are wrong. I'm sure they're actually rope diameters in the "length" column.

I bought mine there without a problem, but it's so long ago I can't remember whether the table was screwed up then too.
