He did land long. Perhaps deliberate 'cos there was plenty of time to get properly set up.

I spent a few seconds in cloud during a ppl lesson (instructor demonstration). A very strange experience.

He was flying IFR in IMC so his approach was set up before he even descended below the clouds, probably went VFR when he had a visual of the runway. The only reason not to "stick it on the numbers" is if the exit/taxiway/highspeed runoff was a long way down the runway....worth landing long then.

Yes, I did consider that and watching again it seems he couldn't reasonably/comfortably make the earlier turns.

It obviously takes familiarity and skill to go long. With my handful of hours I'd rather not, thanks!

If you land long in a Jet aircraft, you will soon run out of runway and meet your maker. Depending if the runway is intended for WB (wide body) or not will make the TD point either 700 feet or 1200 feet from the threshold. This point may vary depending on local runway slope or orographic features.

I still have no idea how you come to your conclusions? How does a wb ac make a difference to landing distance? The ILS will plant you at 1000ft and VFR it's up to you regardless ?? I am also a pilot and you have lost me. :ambivalence:
