I have been visiting the internet weather site http://theyr.net over the past few weeks looking for a weather/work window to bring my yacht across from France.

The wind predictions seem to over emphasise the effect of land mass.

For example as of Saturday morning the Tuesday 1am wind forecast for the UK shows Ireland acting as a massive windbreak and the English Channel is apparently a wind tunnel. The map shows a F6 at St Catherine’s Point yet a F3 over Southampton.

Does their software need some tuning?

Re: Uk Windmap

Useful for current and recent past conditions but not a source of forecasts. Even the current conditions can be quite a few hours out of date at times. Useful too for reliable pressure redings for calibrating your barometer .

Also good for current ant recent conditions

And of course in the solent area Chimet and its pals.

You could try some of these, (the windfinder man in Kiel is good)

(Weatherweb and Windfinder are particulary easy to use.)

Its good to compare the different forecasts. If they all reach a consensus, it should be a bit comforting.

Thanks I will use some of these, after graphic overload elsewhere on the net it is nice to get a text synopsis. Unfortunately WebWeather did not make a good first impression.

Here is their current 5 day forecast

Selsey Bill to St Albans Head.

6pm Sunday: E 26 knots
Midnight Monday: E 21 knots
6am Monday: N' 16 knots
Midday Monday: S 3 knots
Midday Tuesday: W 18 knots
Midday Wednesday: E 12 knots
Midday Thursday: E 17 knots

You don’t see that sequence in yachtmaster tutorials on weather :)
