theyr.net changes

Anyone else get emails this morning from these guys asking to re-register because they are changing their payment provider?

At first glance it looked like one of those bank phishing emails asking you to re-register but the URLS seem OK. Also looks like one of their people has nicked the theyr.net domain so they are changing to theyr.tv?? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I would treat all this with suspicion and contact theyr directly.

I was about to post thesame sort of enquiry?

In the e mail they say that the new theyr.tv is the people responsible for the old Theyr.net service, but how do we know?? Do we register with both as theyr is one site I've found to be ultra reliable in the past and would want to continue using?

Anybody out there able to find out who ran the old .net and who does now or is it just someone forgot to reregister the name and an opportunist has snuck in. We very nearly had this when we first started and our domain was registered through a third party who never forwarded the reregister docs in time. Happily got sorted but very close to the wire.

see the thread in pbo. Almost certain that the new theyr.tv is the one being run by the genuine article, and theyr.net is now being run by interlopers

How do you work that out, that the people who have the domain name and your money are the baddies and the people who sent an e-mail saying switch to another site are the goodies?

I imagine its a falling out between partners in the company, and both are trying to bag the customers before the other. One got in early and secured the name, the other is now trying to persuade customers that they are the real McCoy.

Yes, it's a falling out - but this forum is only for mobo's so I can't say too much! Several threads in other fora.

The original site was run by icelandic peeps, so is the new one. The new site works like the old one used to, the old one now doesn't. The old site is asking people to register apparently, the new site is honouring old subscriptions, etc etc. The new site are responding to emails, the old site isn't Nothing is clear yet, but it would seem that the the new guys with the .tv domain are Icelandic, and are behaving honourably so far.

No doubt the cause of the problem will come out in due course.

Something was changed in the whois database for theyr.net on the 23/11 and it now lists a technical contact in London. The theyr.tv domain was registered on the 22/11.
