Anyone here abouts got an opinion on which thermal underwear is the best value for money? See Musto do a complete range but doesn't give a guide to the thermal efficiency of the product. Whereas Damart seem cheaper and rate thermal efficience for all products.

I know on my old bike Damarts long johns were a must, and now in similar situation on Flybridge need to get something, if only for the good lady so she continues to enjoy winter cruising!! Better not get them for her for Xmas though, might give the wrong impression!! Paul /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hi Paul, just before we went on a sailing course, in October, I puchased a couple of sets of Helly Hansen Prowool Hybrid Base Layer thermals, and even in f8/9 they were superb. In both men's and woman's versions. See them here. Just type Helly Hansen into the search box at the bottom & hit go.

I bought mine from Matalan...£6 each for longjohns and long sleeve vest....very warm and keenly priced...I even ski in them....If you don't like them £12 is not an arm and a leg just throw them away

A mail order possibility, but quite a long way from you, for the real wool thing is http://www.nznature.co.nz/merino.htm - click the thermal underwear then make sure you select the United Kingdom shop choice for pricing.

Haven't tried the underwear (not cold enough here) but we have bought other stuff of theirs and has been very good. If interested, try emailing them, we found that they give excellent service advising on correct fit, details, etc.

They do them in silk too.

The possum wool (or possum and merino mixed) hats are very warm and I use them for my getting to be shiny top.
