My dad had a look at a Bavaria 34 at the show on the hard when I was down on the water looking at the big flash powerboats. He rather liked it! You get two big double cabins, a big saloon and galley and the best bit - a new price of £69,000! Amazing value compared to a sameish size motorboat!
We're like you - never been sailing on a yacht before so don't really have a clue how to work one but I'm thinking of joining the sailing club at Uni when I start next week so time to learn!'
We've been on the same thought process for a while now and Mrs OF very taken by some of the deck saloon yachts and some of the motor sailers. We're beginning to find mobo cruising boring, need more adventure, also fed up of all the plastic, LEDs and blinging in newer mobo designs across the board. More yachts seem to retain classic style and elegance.
Hi Alistair, I was very interested to read your post on 'the other side'. Having decided to upgrade our 7m cuddy to get more room to overnight in comfort, and having spent 2 days at SIBS I am amazed at the amount of living space in some of these sailing things.
One boat I really liked was the Legend 27. This comes in at £45K in poverty spec but has all the basics. The amount of space compared with a 27ft motor cruiser was huge and appeared to be nicely finished.
I have never been sailing but the idea is starting to appeal to me. I intend to give it a go in the very near future.
Good luck with your search and thanks for sharing the experience.
