Re: there is nothing-absolutely nothing-half so much worth doing as si
You are right! And it'll soon be warm enough to start varnishing again...
But if your boat is ashore and you are missing the joys of summer: hanging on for grim death in the wind and rain, freezing your extremities, hailstones blasting into your face from windward, that sort of thing, then get yourself an unfaired bike for commuting to work. I nearly froze my fingers off going home yesterday! Just like Bembridge in April.
Sorry, Fred Drift again, back to daydreaming about sailing. Cue "Albatross" by Fleetwood Mac and a warm breeze.

In Haslar, having my fingers frozen off? Not in this weather, there are much nicer places to be.
Of course, I would love to be back in the Caribbean. Having a coffee in English Harbour, or walking round the lovely supermarket in Jolly Harbour prior to having a BBQ on board.
Rowing ashore in Bequia after the boat boys have returned all my washing nicely ironed and folded, and the fuel boat has filled us up. It is VERY relaxing in that harbour!
Sitting at the bar in Prickly Bay watching the world go slowly by, followed by a trip to a local resturaunt; the chinese just up the road f'rinstance; cheap and loaded plates and delicious.
I could go on
and on...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Got 5 outboards to service
Tabur Yak dinghy to repair
Freeman 22 to finish restoring..and then sell
Yacht has not seen me for 6 weeks...got to get ready for the season
When I bought my poor old boat and collected it from Oare Creek it was clear from the neglected boats that many are seduced by the idea but a good few abandon their dream and their boat. Sad really as I can't imagine a better way way to idle away one's life.
And my boat is on an other continent and somebody decided that I have to finish the kitchen renovation before I am allowed to go and sail the boat home /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Dropped by the marina yesterday, gave the boat a quick look over, the new spray hood is on, at last we have a proper working heating system (eber). So if Jerry has finnished washing and repairing the main, we can get that back on this weekend and hopefully get some sailing in during the last of the winter weeks, as we had planned last summer!
There will be days before all the boats start to relaunch when we can slip out the marina, with a bit of a smugness as all the others are ashore doing the antifouling etc.
I moved my MAB from Oare Creek because I not only wanted to mess about in a boat, I also wanted to sail it occasionally. It hadn't been out for 5 years -but kept in good order.
Well , |Falorum at large, I am in the position to offer preofessional relief for stress. My boat work list has not dimished as fast as I was planning this winter, and so 'messing about in boats' is on offer.
Bottom fairing
Antifouling
Anode replacement
Additional Wiring
Radar Tower strut Brackets
etc
etc
ad infinitum
I have that very quote framed on my office wall. For a Rat he was a very sensible chap. Whole heartily agree, however would add "with another person and copious amounts of booze" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Know what you mean. Spent last week around Antigua, Mustique, Tobago Cays, Bequia, Union, St. Vincent. Got back in sandals as bloody airline lost my bag and frooze my toes off. Oh well small price to pay!
