As was pointed out by one of the forum regulars a few weeks back, when the question is asked, 'what is the best anti foul' every make seems to get good reports.

Lets tackle this from the opposite direction and come up with any experiences where the anti foul has not performed to the manufacturers claims.

For comparison lets agree on a one year performance period and state the type of vessel and the location it was berthed.

Maybe we can see if there are any bad treatments.

REMEMBER THIS IS A THREAD ABOUT ANTI FOUL THAT DID NOT WORK FOR YOU, SO NO POSTING ABOUT THOSE THAT DID (OR DO).

Blakes/Hempel boot topping

May I nominate the worst antifoul boot_topping paint?

Blakes/Hempel True Blue. Supposed to be 'scrubbable' but it smears over the topsides when you do scrub it; or even wipe it with a wet rag.

Customer rating: Completely useless

The worst Anti- Fouling I have ever used was from a Chandlers who had been ripped off.
I bought a "Damaged ?" 2.5 litre tin of a well known Antifouling. After applying it and observing the growth of green stuff on my hull within a very short time I realised that someone had "replaced" the antifouling with Grey Emulsion.

Red EU45; Holyhead, 2008 or 2009, 35+ Knot sports boat. cheap but useless with poor adhesion to properly applied primer.

Plus both International and Hempel ( Blakes) outdrive paints, including that weird 2 component clear coating that was discontinued; Fouling loved it, but nothing man made would stick to it so it all had to be abraded off. I should have used Artex.

Int Cruiser Uno - in the med on mobo, used the white colour, I have used this in UK no problem. Down in med though I now have the furriest boat in the marina ;-(. Better than nothing but not much. Next year it will be what the locals use in a dark colour.

Surprisingly the worst fouling I have ever seen on our boat was last year with International Interspeed. It's the first time I have used it and just applied it normally.

The only potential reason I can give is that maybe I wasn't going fast enough often enough to let it do it's stuff. If it wasn't that then it's rubbish! I had to get a diver down to clean the boat and the thick layer of barnacles from the propshaft. I have never had to do that before in 20 years of boating - in the same sea area.
