Just visited Cornwall for a few days having driven down from Scotland to see a friend. Whenever I looked out from his home in Kingsand I was smitten. When I went further south and viewed the sea from so many places I got further smitten. And when I looked out from Lands End, I know I have to come back and sail there one day. Its a long way in a 22 footer, but it's got me thinking!

There speaks a man with some of the most fantastic scenery in the country (thats assuming Scotland remains part of UK, then its abroad:D)

Then thats my compliment to Cornwall! On the UK bit, almost every Cornishman I met said that Cornwall wasnt in the UK!:)

Seriously, Ive got one big urge to sail there one day.

Sshhhhhhh, don't tell everyone ;)

More flat water in W Scotland.
Sunnier in Devon and Cornwall.
Hundreds of quiet anchorages up north.
High grockle density in the south.
Castles and waterfalls up north.
Pubs per square inch in the south.
Whisky
Clotted cream
Blokes with skirts
Birds on holiday
Claymores
Clay mines

They're both great cruising grounds!

Watching Timmy Spall being eaten alive by midges as they went through the Caledonian said more than enough for me..

Will stay with Cornwall even though we are presently in Devon... We stil get good pasties and Cornigh beer..:)

Kingsand is in the 'forgotten' part of Cornwall - well off the normal tourist areas. Both Cawsand and Kingsand are full of second home owners and as a result the place can be dead out of season, but often the best time to visit!

I still think the light is better in Scotland.

But is it? Is there an equivalent to St Ives for artisits there?

It is further North of course and a northerly light is a good painting light but mostly, they have less sunlight (listening to Radio 4 the other day, this, it seems, is the reason for UK's highest red hair numbers).

But it is true to say that the sailing is good here in Cornwall, at least on the S Coast, with lovely steep-to cliffs and loads of deep and not too busy water.

But I was in Stornoway and Skye recently and thought just how nice it would be to go sailing there!

Distance lends desire, it seems
