sounds pretty dry - history of trying to forecast the weather.

but well written/interesting read. plenty of interesting characters turn up eg Constable, Beaufort, Fitzroy, Morse etc.

captures the excitement of the advancement of science in the 1800's

Thanks. I guess you've probably read Richard Hamblyn's 'The Invention of Clouds', a biography of Luke Howard, the Quaker who devised the modern system of cloud nomenclature early in the C19th IIRC. If not, worth a read.
