the temporary bridge across the thames at dorney/boveney was lowered into place today.

a hoooooge crane placed 3 sections, presumably the others will be installed tomorrow.

it looks solid, but not very new, probably will be painted in situ.

Is it the suspension bridge used for the Reading festivals? Would make sense.
Big curvy thing until the decking is bolted in place to give stiffening.

It is a flat middle section with an incline at each end,not the reading one.

I have always considered the thames above teddington to be the "upper " thames.

When people refer to it as the non-tidal thames is assume it must have been re-titled at around the same time as marathon chocolate became "snickers".and cheese and onion crisp packets swapped colours with salt and vinegar?

there is a forty foot gap on the dorney side, must be a leap to get the spectators attuned to the spirit of the event?

I always think of the Upper Thames as above Reading, middle Windsor to Reading etc.. this is how the Rowing clubs divide it up for regional competitions and I think they followed EA divisions.

However the real upper Thames is above Oxford where only the brave dare venture:)

It's not true. I don't know why he's saying that. My boat is at Lechalde and I can assure you it's horrible. Don't bother, stay away.

Agree,
You have to work the locks yourselves,
Fields are full of voracious animals who eat you mooring lines,
and poo,
Very few pubs,
no nice mooring places with concrete sides and bollards,
the land is flat and the River winds,
lots of other things.
Oh yes, and narrowboats

Stay well away
:D

But if you do get up here Cereal let me know. I'll make you a black coffee in a plastic mug on my tiny boat.

Will do moxon.

dont forget,if you need any glassfibre sections to repair your boat,it might be worth deploying a grapnel to retrieve sheared off flybridge mouldings that are probably languishing on the river bed beneath OSNEY bridge.

if osney does not get them, godstow surely will!
