the Ugly Duckling

I've seen Quixota in the flesh a few years ago, and she was in simply stunning condition. The sort of condition that shows care has been lavished on her for a long time. She was better than new with perfect brightwork. I've never seen a boat as old in such good condition without a professional crew looking after her, she really is unique.

Getting that tatty Pioneer up to that the award winning standard of Quixota will take you or whoever a lot of time and even more money.

If you've got both in abundance go for it. If not, think twice

Since they are two different boats by two different designers built by two different companies, converting one into the other would be a fair bit of work. There is a long thread about the Pioneer elsewhere.

Don't be so negative. There is nothing that a pot of car body filler, some sheets of glass mat, and a bit of epoxy resin cannot change. Given the above, plus a trowel and a sander I could easily do the job in a week.

Somehow I feel I'd be happier sailing the Pioneer, as I'd be worried about spoiling the Contessa's immaculate condition - even clambering aboard from the dinghy with muddy wellies and 2 wet dogs would bring tears to me eyes - though I am sure SWMBO would have the exact opposite opinion (and a flannel and towel waiting for me!)
