The time has come to down size and now I need some advice.

I am now selling my 10m Eclipse in which I have spent a lot of summers wandering about the med. I will buy a day boat to wander about the waters ,lakes, rivers and canals of southern France.
I have some parameters:-

I am 6ft 3" tall and my wife is no midget. I am 70.
I think that towing will also place a limit on the sort of boat to buy.
The idea is to wander on inland waters and bb overnight.
I enjoy sailing but not racing.

The looks and size of Iain Oughtred's Caledonian look attractive to me but is it suitable?
 
I am in exactly the same position as yourself, with one additional complication. I have just had my second replacement hip; I now have a matched pair. This has left me with a definite loss of flexibility, which I feel takes sailing out of the picture. A friend has a Caledonian which I know I could buy, but I honestly don't think that I could manage. So until I find something suitable I'll hang on to my money [and hope that the stock market will recover soon].

Caledonian Yawl is fast and flightly. Lovely boat to look at and light to handle on land. If you want something a bit more realxing , you might consider something from Character Boats. i don't fancy much out of their current range, other than the whammel. I have a 20 year old lune pilot which looks great, and can be sailed reasonably easily. Boom is high so there is no need for crouching as you go about. You won't set any records, but time afloat is going to be more important for you than distance travelled.

The hardest part can be getting the boat in and out of the water. Getting a really well set up trailer makes all the difference. Good luck. R
