the thrust from an inboard on a 26 foot yacht

So we can help you search, what's the budget for the boat itself Dylan, and does it need to be sailable all bar the engine (ie. reasonable sails, standing rigging, etc) as it is at that price?

I agree, so how big is a Centaur? My 28 footer is 4.4 tons and only has a 1GM10 (It does sail well though!)

26 feet, 3 tons empty. Same as mine. Some people are just so used to switching on a great big engine and motoring whenever the wind's wrong that they forget that other people may have different priorities.

woo hoo

I am looking for something that is ashore.... 3 hours of Oxford... near power.... sails stowed dry.... rudder asembly in good nick

mast up so that I can see the standing rigging

a bit of mold can be power washed off

the electrics I can live without

I can connect the outboard direct to a car battery and run my cigarette lighter 12 volts off that

plumbing/headlining not mission critical but good to have

no need for any nav gear... I have my GPS and charts

radio not needed either - I have a hand held and phone

sink... not essential... cooker not even mission critical

plastic covered upholstery rather than fabric

basically I need a sound boat with a watertight hull and the strengthening already done on the keels

decent sails and decent standing rigging

tatty running rigging is fine

the engine needs to be a basket case or entirely absent would be even better

under 2K

There was one around Gosport a while back. Looked to be mostly complete and was for sale, albeit in a rather peculiar way. I think it's now moved, but possibly not been sold. I'll have a look for it tomorrow to see if it's just been shifted a bit or gone completely, and if it has gone, try and find out where to. Might not lead anywhere but worth an ask.

there will be many blind alleys

thanks, very good of you

In my boat yard tours of the trip so far most places have a moldering Centaur that has not moved for a season or two

No problem.

For the record, I still think you're completely bonkers as it will be much more work than you imagine, may not function very well, and at normal prices would cost more than a decent diesel re-power. That doesn't matter though, what matters is that you want to give it a shot.

Will let you know whether I get anywhere or not.

I have a cheap engine, free jollop and an expert to apply it

the only cost of the conversion will be some timber and some jigsaw blades

of course until I get to crawl around the inside of the back of a centaur with a tape measure then I do not even know for sure if there is enough space for what I wish to achieve
