Here at Marlow and good ol Alaska has had a film crew onboard most of the morning. Noticed Peter Ackroyd onboard too and can only guess they are filming a series based on his book "Thames from source to sea".

Will be worth looking out for in the future

Got some piccies but can't upload them as the damn USB to phone lead is at home.

"Will be worth looking out for in the future"

Please file my post for future reference. After the screening I predict...........

The first couple of posts will be mildly approving
After that will come a deluge of whinging with some or all of the following in the text

A missed opportunity.....
A traversty....
How could they have missed out (put in your own favorite bit) entirely
I could have done better...
Why did they not consult.........
No mention of selling off our heritage/history/ family silver.....
Bluddy narrowboater/rowers/gin palace owners...

You just wait................ /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Ps. Only about 10% of posters will actually have seen it of course..

Back in 1996 Upper Thames Motor Yacht Club did a club "Source to Mouth" exercise as part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations.
It was broken into a number of sections;
Thames Head to (?) a pub next to the 1st canoeable bit) - which was covered by a load of dog owning members who walked it.
Canoes to Lechlade- a mix of members' kids and some members who thought they were still kids in borrowed canoes. Frightening how big swans seem from canoe level.
Smaller boats from Lechlade to Oxford.
Larger boats from Oxford to Sonning (HQ) where we had our summer ball.
Sonning to TMYC at Hampton Court who presented us with a super glass plaque, now mounted in a lit case at the club house.
Final leg from TMYC to Ramsgate - Royal Temple YC, signed off by their Commodore.
Every lock keeper signed a scroll and the RTYC Commodore was the last signatory.
Involved most of the membership and was a super event.
The scroll and a couple of photo's are now framed in the club house.
Just shows that not all Yacht Clubs are about being "bitchy".

Probably got the titles mixed up, its based on his book called;

"Thames, Sacred river".

Now i've had chance to dig it out again I can correct myself

Yes! I remember you doing that Mike. The Commodore of the RTYC at the time (Gordon Greenfield) is an old family friend and he told me how impressed he was. Mind you he isn't short of kudos himself. He is a R.N.Commodore in his own right, former Deputy Chairman of PLA., Trustee of the Marine Society, Fellow of the R.I.N. plus lots of other things. When in his 70s he sailed the Atlantic single handed. I first met him a zillion years ago when he was a Trinity House Pilot .
