The Solent - April 13th - in a Sports Boat

Well Done

But what had you done to the waves? Was that really the sea?

Down in Devon last week and only had 1.5 boating days out of a possible 5. Wind steady F5-6-7, wave ht. 2-3m and breaking. Reminded me of last Summer.

GREAT VIDEO martin !!!! wish it was that calm more often when im down there !!!!!!!..... please put yourselves forward to be the "resident forum weather forcasters" !!!!

Great video, it was almost like we were on there with you (I wish) just reminds me that bigger is not always better, I do hanker back to the time I could hoon about with out the worry of weather the pictures would fall of the walls or her ladyships dressing table gets disturbed.
Proper fun boating, the reason most of us got into it.....
Thanks for including SpottyDog, made my day sat at home missing her :)

We were out Friday on the Solent in our small boat too.:D

We left Chichester marina and blasted out to Nab Tower with the kids. It was when we got there and tuned back I noticed all the storm clouds! Some lovely lightning over Portsmouth way.

Though it was cold I still managed to get a bit burnt!

Thanks for the positive comments.

My son spotted "Spottydog", he is forever recognising forum boats wherever we go.

I thought about a Go-Pro but everything seemed to be "extra", including a proper screen. They also seem more about "fix and forget", ie, taking a single wide angle shot rather than any attempt at composition.

I went for a Panasonic HX-WA2 which seems to fit my needs well. It produces nice pictures and HD video and is waterproof/robust enough to survive boating.

On the plus side it seems particularly good at cutting wind noise, the video was filmed mounted directly in the air flow above the windscreen yet it only shows real wind noise when turned across the wind.

The downsides are that "out of the box" it does not take pictures/videos to the quality I like, I had to spend some time fiddling with the controls to remove all the "auto this" and "auto that" facilities. Also the battery life seems less than I would like.

Here is the set-up...

You just answered what i were going to ask about the camera and mounting bracket;) Hope to see the solent like that when i get the boat out this year, last year i took a right battering in our bowrider!
