The river Teign is ok with great Sunsets , usually

I wouldn’t disagree with you about Teignmouth except that your picture is facing almost due West rather than due East.

walk a hundred yards and the other side of the beach faces due east. Best of both worlds! I can't think of another place where the same beach has both sunrises and sunsets.

Humm i understand that the Sun rises in the East therefore sets in the West . maybe I gota google it again ?

That photo is from Teignmouth Back (or River) Beach partly facing in the direction of Shaldon (on the pic left) but also facing up river on pic right

Lucky we are to live here ; if only the boating facilities were improoved somewhat ; so gota write /petition to the newish Harbour Master , Karen ; hopefully She will action some of the necessary local improvements

In light of the fact that recently a freighter turned East from the approximate position of your photo into the moorings, rather than West towards the docks I thought it important to clarify in which direction your photo was taken and to avoid any further confusion for visiting freighter skippers about which way to turn in the river.

With a substantial operating profit made by the harbour last year and a 20% increase in mooring fees this year I have no doubt that you will see the improvements you wish for. I just need to get those wretched pigs down from the rigging as they are roosting up there again.

Yet another shot of our river Teign , from further up river near Bishopsteignton ; a virtually windless evening , no rain , the sun begining to set over Coombe Cellars ; the spotty bits out of focus in lower frame are weed flowers ; me a shorty so could not raise camera above them ; sorry DSCN2406.JPG

I don't know the Teign but places with good sunsets are something I am fond of. We have some around our way, such as Tollesbury creek and Hamford Water. I saw most of my sunsets in the Baltic with some lovely ones I have as photos.

Sunsets are always nice to photograph but are really only as good as the foreground or scenery, the OP's scoring well on this measure. Most people overexpose them, as I see it, which is a pity as the area round the sun gets burnt out. There are ways of overcoming this. I generally set the camera to spot expose for the brightest part and correct the rest of the photo later, but some cameras can be set to record an extended range or at least bracket the exposure.
