Having just returned from a week in Southampton and had a little trip up the Hamble and the Beaulieu which were both very nice we were wondering if the Itchen for another year is nice. Her indoors thinks it looks a little industrial. We would be interested in peoples views on this

Thanks

Industrial to start but interesting becoming ruralish. Public launch under the big toll bridge near football stadium, though maybe good idea to launch somewhere else such as the public slip at Ealing, next to Anchor Inn where parking is easy.

Not sure I would want to launch and leave my car at the slip way next to the football stadium! Many years ago I used to launch from Hythe Marina and then take a trip over to the Itchen and also the docks and beyond.

So all in all it might be better to use a canoe on th upper part of the river
You can leave car and trailer under Itchen bridge on the public slip, as anywhere lock the trailer up but loads of people leave cars there. You can go all the way to woodmill in a rib on the tide, it’s about a 45 min run each way but you can’t cross the road in to the fresh water area and it’s far to shallo. Then back down the river up to Ealing through the docks
you could launch at hythe marine slip and do the same.
either way Itchen needs the tide up really
