Just before leaving for the Channel Islands it was anounced that M&S were making a recovery. Great another enterprise recovering from the woods. Sure enough there in St Peter Port there was M & S proudly on the harbour front. Liberaly plastered around the shop were notices stating that all prices shown were subject to a 5% channel Islands levi. Even though the notices urged one to get details of the tax from the checkout there were never any available. One evening I chanced to mention the tax to our more than capable guide expecting it to be a revenue raised by the islands to compensate for the transport cost's etc. Oh no he explained it's not an Island tax. They charge the extra to pay for the computer link to the mainland because they won't operate their stock control localy.

So M&S aren't actually working their way out of the crisis they've just found another way to skin the customers. Naturally our patronage of the said group ceased imediatly. Moral of the story. Support the local traders. The produce is cheaper, just as good and their buisiness practices are at least honest.
M&S, you can shove it where the sun don't shine.

The cheeky b.....ds! How on earth can they justify that crap and have the audacity to call it tax, thereby bamboozling the public even further, surely that's illegal.

it's perfectly natural for most of the shops in the CIs and you may have boycotted it but most of your family didn't.

What do you mean poor HLB I caught up with him in Dielette then morning after next he was gone. Havent been able to get a proper signal on my phone in Alderney must all him to find out where he went and how he got on with his free Soltron.

Am begining to wonder if he expects me to know where everyone is all the time!....whenever he can't find someone, he phones me!
Anyway what you doing on here ? wheren't you suppose to be gone for two weeks!....how can I keep track of everyone if they don't do what they say they are going to do?
