Well the Where bit was Newton Creek - as recognised by most people.
As to WHEN this was taken, it was on the August Bank Holiday 2004 at about 8 o'clock in the evening. There were about four boats moored overnight. That's the surprising bit.
The weather on the Friday was wet and miserable but forecast to clear from the west in the evening so we got down to the boat at about 5:00 and set off down to arrive at about 7:30 just as the weather cleared as promised. I guess everyone else decided it was too grotty and stayed home. The result was a peaceful night in a beautiful spot pretty well all on our own.
Next day we took the dinghy and explored every nook and cranny of the creek (including the pub) in glorious sunshine and left at about 5:00 that evening picking our way through about 250 boats as we left and feeling remarkably smug about it!
