The Relentless march of the MS updateNB

I understand that the reason that Mac's suffer less from virus's (and they do suffer) is that there are so few of them in use that it takes the virus's a long time to find one on the internet to infect /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

Sort of like the Americans looking for Bin Laden I assume.

Ho ho!! No, the real reason is that since PCs outnumber Macs by 100 to 1 and hackers prefer to go for 'maximum damage', they opt for the Windows world. Plus Microsoft makes it easier for them because they produce such s''ite software.

My system was running slowly a while back so I started looking at what was running. I managed to get the list down by 50%. Spybot got rid of a few spyware programs and I traced a few things that were not actually bad but just didn't need to be running. For example there was a program that detects when the scanner lid is opened, how pointless is that? Unfortunately some of these programs can be quite difficult to get rid of without editing the registry, which is not to be done unless you know what you are up to.
Aso, have a look in the column in the Task Manager that tells you what the CPU usage is, apart from System Idle Process they should be very small numbers. Alarm bells should ring if you see anything using a lot of CPU time because it could be a key logger or some other evil code!

Re: The shuffling failure of the white-hot revolut

>>There is absolutley no doubt that arty stuf needs a mac.<<

But I don't know of any 'production' graphic designers who we are running software on their Macs that they could not also run on a PC. I would be interested to hear what Mac graphics software there is that has no PC equivalent.

>>The sole outpost of mac superiority remains the production of the printed word on the page<<

That changed with OS X. There is now a flood of Unix-minded people who love the shell. Not something that matters much to me, but I have suddenly seen a huge increase in the Mac presence in computer science environments.
