Is not affecting everywhere and everything the same.Always under the impression(press/forumites) that the UK is suffering worst in the current financials, but my recent trip to Cala d Or suggests other wise.
The whole harbour is looking more than a little worse for wear with large gaps in the normally wall to wall glassfibre and a serious number of bars/resturants either empty or showing for sale or to rent signs.Peters office is now just one more vacant shop.
Last night(Sat) viewed from a small eating house(Hi Tony) fairly high up above the harbour you could not see a soul sitting in the big eating places or even just walking around down by the water, the Yacht Club is even rumoured to have gone under ?
Many of the boats were looking distinctly tired and uncared for compared to the pristine ranks of a couple of years ago, however in direct contradiction my chum has just sold his Targa 43 to a dutch buyer after a three way fight for the boat.No more freebie trips there then, and further, the little hotel we frequent( Hotel d Or) was heaving, never seen it so busy with the flight down with Stelios Airways full as well .
It seems you can get here and stay for nothing, but the strength of the euro is making it cripplingly expensive to eat out. No wonder people are finding it less attractive to boat in the area.
Thames marinas we have visited recently seem prosperous compared to everything we saw in Majorca this weekend and FH even the eatery at Bray seems a bargain....well nearly.
Just time for one more evening run out before boat handover, perfect slow run back up coast.
And with a nod to all you tent boaters
Think that zip goes errr there and the press stud goes under the chrome pole ????
