or perhaps it is wrong.

Here's the situation. Stingo has been on the market since February and there has not been one viewing, never mind an offer (besides a dodgy Nigerian sort of offer).

I believe that I should clear £50k for her if she was in the UK (after the brokers beer tokens have been handed over). Getting her delivered to the UK will cost approx £5k and I expect at least £3k worth of wear 'n tear. Say three months of moorings fees in the Solent at £1K, that leaves me with £41k at best or US$75k which goes against my tight-fisted nature.

So panel, two things, if this were your boat and it was sitting in the Caribbean, what price would you ask for it and should I bash my head with a hammer until I get used to the idea that whatever I do, I am not going to get reasonable value for the love of my life?

Stop believing property type shows on TV. Car dealers and yacht brokers make money. We do not. Simple fact of life. Get what you can for it, don't hold out for what's not there.

IMHO, its in the price range where people will want/need to view it, as its a big buy for people likely to be looking ni that price range, but its not big enough or expensive enough that the wealthy will want it 'off the page'... or in other words, it needs to be where people can view it... so thats either mainland USA or back in the UK....... its a buyers market... there are loads of boats for sale at the moment....

Personally, I'd move it back to the UK....... its a European boat, so more likely to sell here....

As for price.... well... its a buyers market.....

Whats the boat?

Several times now, when buying a boat or a motorbike, I have trawled through past magazines, rung up advertisers and asked if the have sold whatever it was they were advertising. A clear pattern emerged - those who offered an attractive proposition sold, those who didnt didnt. Might sound obvious so let me put it another way. Those who offered a below average price for an average boat or a much above average boat at an average price sold. Those who simply looked at YBW and stcuk in the advert at the same price as lots of others didnt sell.

True there were exceptions, mainly amongst the oddball boats / bikes. You are much more likely to get your asking price for (say) a Prout cat than you are for a Benny lost in a huge list of other Bennies for sale. Because you are much more likely to get someone who is looking for that partic boat / model.

No interest at all since Feb says to me " price way out".

Come on down

hm, you shd've setttled for the £3grand i generously offered in Port Solent. Now, sadly, the boat is afflicted with the Curse Of The Dithering Circumnavigator, doomed to forever sail the pages of YM with decks awash with seagull shite, a damsel taken to the brink of glory ne're fulfilled.

Having got a couple of aquaintenances who swan off to the carribean every so often, tend to get a bit p****d of when they return and tell me what fantastic deals are available out there......As I understand it 99% of prospective purchasers couldn't sale the boat home anyway! and the odd 1% pitch at about 50% of asking price, if you are lucky!. Have you considered shipping back to the UK/Europe? At least that way you would avoid the wear & tear aspects. I was led to believe that it was not much more beer tokens than a delivery crew.... maybe worth looking at? HTH and sorry that you havn't had any takers, miss the reports!!!

The cheapest shipping quote I've had was £8k - plus I'd have to buy a cradle and fly to the carib and move her to the collection port... which would add another £2k to the bill.

Ghost, thanks for your offer of £3k for a delivery. That is exceptionally cheap - where's the catch? Are you aware that it is over 5000 NM and will probably take you two months?

Talbot, moving her to the mainland USA makes sense. I've heard that the intercoastal waterway is spectacular.

Mudplugger, good news about the Anecdotes from Stingo updates. I am currently working on an update and have been since October last year. I hope to have them finished by the end of next, next, erm, next... Don't you ever get writers' block?

While I appreciate that the cash is attractive ,if it is not forthcoming is it possible to seetle for income while boat is left up for sail? There must be outfits that want charter boats in the Carrib. Or is your boat too customised now?
