The pla harbour masters what do they do ??

we go past them at Richmond frequently but rareley see them out or in fact present the staff I mean.

the Richmond and the chelsea just seem to sit there .

does anyone know what and when they should be working ??

The more serious patrols are carried out down where the Thames is working. i.e. Tilbury, Gravesend etc. Duties are varied and involve virtually all aspects of management. The launches at the top of the Thames generally deal with matters locally although can be called well downstream if and when required.
