I HAD been a desciple of the traditional needle & palm method of sewing sails and covers until my new "Stitch it Awl" arrived from Australia this week.
Now I am a convert.
Sewing with the awl is much easier and much better controlled. Furthermore, proper interlocked stitches can be obtained which look, with (a very little) practice, as even and regular as machine stitching.
Wonderful bit of kit but get a good supply of needles from Airlie Beach as the German manufacturer will only supply minimum orders of 50 needles and his on-line catalogue is the worst nightmare of cross-referencing I've ever seen.
Beware cheap imitations!

(who will not read any responses for at least two weeks as he is booked on the 2205 tonight to Athens and then Corfu for re-launch week followed by a short cruise)
