Never one to let a good rumour pass by without comment, the following has been whispered in my shell like lughole.
It has been alleged, that the powers that be,want to provde 1500 or possibly 15000 (here we go) moorings for visitors from abroad who wish to arrive by yacht to view the games
The PLA have indicated they can rustle up 1000 or 10000(take your pick) but that elsewhere will have to take up the slack.
Recently someone I know got into conversation with a man with a clipboard "from the council ? " who was tasked with locating all the possible landing points on the Medway to enable our share of the visitors to get ashore catch trains, shop etc.
Now this could be a teeny weeny problem because as of last month the last pier usable to the public was closed off due to vandalism and was getting to be very unsafe.
Three piers have been either partially dismantled or totally removed and the fourth has been gated off which only leaves one safe working place to land.
Fine you might think, however the only working pier is the wrong side of Rochester Bridge,so any decent sized yacht,ie.one likely to have come from the continent cannot get to it.
Only other place to get ashore is at Queenborough and the landing stage there is in a bit of a parlous state as well by all accountsl.
A open meeting has been called this week for any interested parties to comment, venue is in Chatham Dockyard, yours truly intends going along for the tea and biscuits.
Any thoughts forumeers ?
