I've just been out to the boat to put my 2006 Mooring sticker on. Whilst I was there I thought I'd start the outboard as I haven't run it for a couple of weeks. It took a few pulls then ran, and then stopped. I pulled a few more times with the throttle open and the choke off. It didn't start but I noticed an oily film on the water. Taking off the cover I discovered that the carb was leaking fuel and it was dripping down my leg (ugh).
Now I fixed this by completely stripping the carb and cleaning everything and double checking the assembly of the float and needle valve as I put it back together (you can get it wrong).
Not wanting to take the motor off as it was getting a bit squally, I reverted to the old techniques.
I hit it with an 'ammer.
Works fine now.
I think I'll get a new needle valve though.
