The Oculus, you ain\'t seen nothing yet!

Oculus-by-E.-Kevin-Schopfer.jpg

At 250 feet long and featuring 12-foot ceilings, it's one roomy way to travel over the high seas at 25 knots.

The Oculus is just a concept, but it's the flagship design for Schöpfer's new yacht line.

Featuring a dramatic reverse bow configuration, the yacht's armature balances an elegant expression of symmetry and structure. In addition to the bow, Oculus also features a "low rider profile". This slightly lowered surface allows for new side recreational areas, alternate dockage access and light cruising openness.

What an utter waste of space.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

These idiots are about to disappear up their own orifices at this rate /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

looks a lot like the architect has been taking too much of Albert Hoffman's medicine!!

although, you could say it is radically different in visual appearance, for the rest of us who haven't taken the drug.

Looks ok but has gone too far in some respects. The lack of sundeck space (nothing on the fly) is daft. The uncleanaility of those painted smooth surfaces (when it red-rains every few days in the Med) is a bit daft. The crossways teak planking is horrid - there are structural reasons why decks were planked longways and that bit of tradition still belongs in these days of stuck-on teak decks imho. I cant see the "side recreational areas"

Has a passing resemblence to Captain Nemo's "Nautilus" in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

It would certainly make a bold statement more suited to the SOF than the Uk but strangeley desirable all the same.

You know what?

I can understand architects who think that form rules and function must follow.
After all, in pleasure boating industry there are many examples like that.
And at the end of the day, as long as they find buyers, I guess we can't call them stupid.

But it's the total lack of basic competence in their own job that gets me down.
These amateurs are not even able to draw a proper, consistent model on a CAD system.
The bow is clearly not consistent in the following two views, and also the deck proportions are completely different.

The first picture makes it look like a pike with its mouth open. Or is the lemsip starting to take its toll on my imagination?
